Privacy Policy

Overview

The Canadian Shark Class Association’s purpose is to promote and further the interest in the Shark Class throughout Canada.

We do this by maintaining the one-design character of the Shark24; Making recommendations to the International Shark Class Association on the control of any licensed builders; Encouraging the formation of regional and local fleets; Encouraging and coordinating regional, inter-regional and national competition, cruising and social events for the Class; Providing relevant information on the Shark24 to members of the Association; and Maintaining its status as a Full Member of World Sailing.

Analytics Platform – Usage Information

The Canadian Shark Class Association website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google Inc. (“Google”) used by the Canadian Shark Class Association to analyze how visitors are using our website. This information is used to monitor, identify issues, and improve the Canadian Shark Class Association website.

Payment Processing – Information

The Canadian Shark Class Association processes annual membership dues payments through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the membership association fee and billing information.

Website Platform – Usage Information

The Canadian Shark Class Association website is built using WordPress, an open-source content management system.

Contact forms

When visitors or users submit a form, we capture the IP Address for spam protection. We also capture Name, email address, comments and might capture other personal data included in the Form fields. This information is captured to respond back to your form submission. When visitors or users submit a form we retain the data indefinitely. This is so that we can recognize your previous inquiries and/or comments when you reach out to us and provide follow up correspondence based on historical form submissions.

We use Google reCAPTCHA for spam protection. Their privacy policy can be found here : https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

Website Security Platform – Usage Information

The Canadian Shark Class Association website utilizes Wordfence, a WordPress Security plugin. Wordfence is utilized by the Canadian Shark Class Association to secure and monitor our website platform.

By utilizing the Wordfence plugin, the Canadian Shark Class Association collects (in our own database) information about a users IP address, User Agent, and Referrer. This data is used by the Wordfence plugin for use in live traffic viewing and to secure our website platform.

Some IP addresses that are deemed to be highly malicious are sent over to Wordfence’s servers. The IP address is then stored on Wordfence servers for 90 days and then removed. If the offending IP address still however is attacking websites, it might be re-added to Wordfence servers.

Email Marketing Platform – Usage Information

The Canadian Shark Class Association uses Mailchimp as our Marketing automation platform. When a user registers on the Canadian Shark Class Association website and opts in to email communication from the Canadian Shark Class Association the following user information is sent to Mailchimp: Email Address, First Name, Last Name, CSCA Region, Sail Number, Yacht Club, Boat Name, and Province.

This data is collected to send emails to users who have registered on the Canadian Shark Class Association website. Users can select to opt out of emails from the Canadian Shark Class Association by selecting Unsubscribe from the bottom of our emails or logging into their website account and adjusting their email communication preferences.
