Happy New Year to the Shark Fleet across Canada. Your CSCA Board is excited to announce a 9 regatta schedule for the 2025 season, plus the Shark Worlds in Austria in May. We would like to extend a big thank you to all the host clubs and the many volunteers for supporting the Canadian Shark Class and allowing us to launch the schedule so quickly.
2024 was a season of extreme conditions from no wind to big waves and crazy winds. This past year, over 115 Sharks competed in the 10 regatta’s and strong club racing is growing across Ontario and Quebec. Each year we see fully restored Sharks returning to the fleet and and joining the regatta circuit. This is a true testament to the longevity of the Shark 24 sailboat.
In 2024, CSCA joined Sailors for the Sea and asked regatta organizers to follow the clean regatta protocols. With a few changes, all regattas met the clean regatta protocols.
2024 was also a record year for youth crews taking advantage of the CSCA free registration program. Many new youth crews campaigned this summer and joined the class. Please promote this program to the youth in your local fleet. To qualify, the combined age cannot exceed 75 and no one person can be over 28 and the class will pay for two regattas for these teams.
Important notes for 2025:
- Your 2025 membership fee is now due. You must be a paid member to attend the AGM. Please login your account to pay your 2025 full or crew membership and update your profile to reflect any changes to your contact or boat information by selecting “Update Profile”.
- The 2025 virtual AGM is scheduled for March 23rd at 10:30 am. We are encouraging local fleets to have their regional meetings after the AGM at their local club. A Zoom meeting request will be sent out in March. To attend the AGM, you must be a paid full or crew member.
- CSCA will continue to encourage regatta organizers to follow Sailors for the Sea Clean Regatta protocols.
- Shark of the Year will be calculated based on your best 5 regattas and must include the Canadian, World, or Continental Championship.
To conclude, we look forward to seeing you at the AGM on Sunday March 23rd and at a regatta this summer.
