Dear Shark Fleet,
Upon discussions among the Canadian Shark Class Association, the Board of Directors is pleased to recognize and award the following Trophies for the 2023 Regatta season.
Trophies
- Gold Shark/ Shark of the Year (Sid Dakin Trophy)
- Best 5 Regattas Sailed + Must include either Worlds, Canadians, or Continental Championship to qualify for Sid Dakin SOTY trophy.
- Silver Shark
- Best 4 Regattas Sailed (Boats who qualify for Gold excluded)
- Bronze Shark
- Best 3 Regattas Sailed (Boats who qualify for Gold or Silver excluded)
At the end of season, the boats placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be recognized and presented with a flag. Following 3 CSCA counter regattas being completed a scoreboard showing the current race for the categories will be posted and updated as new regattas are completed.
The scoring system used to rank the competitors will be the Low Point Scoring System. The Low Point Scoring System is defined under Appendix A subsection A4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024. The Board has however elected to amend the tie breaking system found in subsection A8 of the same Appendix as follows:
A 8.1 – If there is a series-score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race finishes at Regattas shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best finish(es).
A 8.2 – If a tie remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their finish at Shark Worlds 2023. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ finish in the regatta and so on until all ties are broken. Boats who did not attend will be considered to have a score equivalent to a DNC score. If both boats do not attend Shark Worlds, their finishes at Shark Canadians will be used.
In the event the silver or bronze series tied boats do not attend Worlds or Canadians and there is still a tie. Finishes at their home club regatta will be excluded from the calculation to break the tie.
Trillium Regatta
Due to unfortunate weather, no races were held at the regatta. Despite this result, the regatta will continue to count towards the number of counter regattas required to qualify. Each boat who registered will receive the equivalent of a DNC score or 27 points towards the end of the year calculations.
CSCA hopes to see you out at the regattas in the calendar.
Happy Sailing,
Canadian Shark Class Association
