Happy New Year to all Shark Sailors. On behalf of the Canadian Shark Class Association and the entire CSCA Board, we are excited to announce the 2022 Counter Regatta Schedule. We have ten counter regattas scheduled from May to October.
I would like to thank Darcy Fuller (Cheers Can 1454) and the host clubs for their fast commitment to the 2022 Sailing Season. Darcy was able to schedule regattas on a two week cycle and has kept your long weekends free for other family activities. To qualify for ‘Shark of the Year’, crews will need to participate in five counter regattas throughout the season, one of which being the Canadian Championship, North American Championship, or World Championship.
The CSCA will continue to financially support all counter regattas in 2022 with the goal of keeping regatta fees as low as possible. We have also updated the standard CSCA Sailing Instructions and are planning a measurement campaign at the club level this summer. With so many new owners and restorations occurring, the goal is to make sure you leave your club with confidence that your Shark meets the one design class requirements.
A key priority of the CSCA is to promote youth participation. The CSCA has a sponsorship program that will pay the entry fees for two regattas each season for crews that meet the criteria. This program has been very successful over the past ten years in attracting youth participation and younger Shark owners to the class.
The CSCA Board has worked to implement all your recommendations from the 2019 survey with the hope of making 2022 a memorable sailing season. It was clear from your feedback that we go to regattas to compete at a high level, meet old and new friends, and have fun!
Further details about the Virtual AGM will be announced in the coming weeks.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Virtual AGM at the end of March and on the race course throughout the summer!
See you on the water!
