A message from the Canadian Shark Class Association President:
Dear CSCA Members:
Yahoo we can race and host regattas! With Friday’s announcement from Ontario Sailing, we will be able to have organized racing in Ontario when we move into Step 2 of reopening on June 30th! This is great news for club racers and regatta organizers.
On Friday, I reached out to Ontario Sailing to confirm that regattas can proceed! They advised that host clubs will be required to have a safety plan in place to manage on-shore crowds and potential gatherings, to ensure that participants maintain 2 meter distancing while on-shore. If social activities are added to the regatta, there are complications associated with the limits on social gatherings and compliance with local bylaws. As we work with different host clubs, you may find different requirements as each region may interpret things slightly differently. Regatta organizers will be working with local officials to ensure compliance.
For regatta organizers in Ontario and Quebec, please expect an email or call from VP Racing Darcy Fuller as he is preparing the 2021 schedule over the next week.
For many of us, the pressure is now on to get our boats back together and finish the various projects before the first race! In our case, we need to attach a keel on one boat and drill a few holes on another! It will be a busy weekend!
I am looking forward to seeing you all “at a distance” very soon!
Best regards,
Rod Gardner
