It is with great regret, the Niagara Shark Worlds Organizing Committee has decided to cancel the 2021 Shark World Championships. After reviewing the probability of getting the “all clear” from the provincial and regional governments, and after consultation with the International Shark Class Association, we have concluded that we will not be able to proceed this year. Niagara on the Lake Sailing Club has a long history of hosting memorable Shark regattas and is a vacation destination that attracts many Shark sailors to participate from around the world. The social aspects of the regatta are as much a part of it as the racing. The additional logistics of running a racing only event with the required social distancing ashore is simply not possible given the number of travelling participants. Today’s environment of uncertainty makes it impossible to make commitments and plan an event such as the Shark worlds.
We hope that all Shark sailors will have a safe 2021 sailing season and will join us in Niagara on the Lake for a World Championships in the near future. Niagara on the Lake is a special place for Shark Sailors, as this is where it all began back in 1959.
